The Peninsula Music Festival (PMF) selects Sara Mueller, graduate of Southern Door High School who will attend UW – Platteville this fall, as recipient of their college scholarship.
Each year, the Peninsula Music Festival awards a $3000 scholarship to a graduating senior who desires to further his or her education in music. The recipient must be an outstanding music student who has demonstrated his or her ability as a performer and has shows a sustained interest in music-related activities. Also, the student must plan to major or minor in music while attending college.
Applicants must write an essay outlining their qualifications, including accomplishments in music, future plans, academic achievements, as well as their high school transcripts and any other information they feel is appropriate for the music scholarship. Letters of recommendation from music professionals and from the student’s high school principal are required.
The PMF’s Executive Committee of the Board of Directors then reviews the applications and selects a recipient. The scholarship is awarded for three years beginning with the sophomore year and continues through the senior year. The recipient must send annual updates plus proof of continuing registration as a music student.
“This year the Festival received six outstanding applications representing Washington Island, Gibraltar, Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door High Schools,” says PMF Executive Director Sharon Grutzmacher. “The choice was very tough. Each of these schools should be very proud of their students. I know everyone involved with the selection process was very impressed!”
In her essay, Sara Mueller highlights her long-standing participation in musical activities as well as her academic achievements. Sara was named “Southern Door Choral Rookie of the Year” in her freshman year and that seemed to ignite her passion for music.
Sara will be honored at the Saturday, August 18 concert of the Peninsula Music Festival. Sarah and her family will attend as guests of the Festival. It seems only too appropriate that the concert that evening is the annual Choral Program featuring Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
The Peninsula Music Festival is a professional symphony orchestra presenting nine different symphonic concerts over three weeks in August each year. The 60th Season will run from August 7 – 25 with concerts every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Highlights include pianist Orli Shaham and Grammy Award winning violinist Hilary Hahn. Tickets are available for all concerts. For information call 920.854.4060 or visit the Website at www.MusicFestival.com.
