For more than 70 years, the Peninsula Arts Association (PAA) has been supporting the arts in Door County.
Since 1994, a large portion of the PAA’s efforts have focused on the ArtFund, a program created by the Wisconsin Arts Board to provide funds to arts organizations throughout the state. The funds provided by the Wisconsin Arts Board (WAB) must be matched dollar for dollar with money that PAA acquires through donations and fundraising efforts. The total is then awarded to the Peninsula’s artists and arts organizations twice each year in a rigorous grant review process.
WAB ArtFund applicant organizations, such as the PAA, must re-apply each year for acceptance to the program. Only Door County residents are qualified to apply for PAA/WAB ArtFund grants. In the last 15 years, the WAB has helped the PAA distribute over $500,000 to local artists.
“We are looking for original projects designed by individual artists and organizations with a strong focus on the community,” says PAA Grants Administrator, Stephanie St. John. “Individual applicants are required to partner with a non-profit organization and all projects must have a public component such as a workshop, exhibit or performance.”
The current cycle’s timeline is as follows:
- Monday, April 26 – Grant cycle opens with applications available
- Monday, May 17 – Applications must be postmarked or submitted digitally for technical review
- Friday, June 4 – Applications must be postmarked for final submission.

Please contact Stephanie St. John to request an application and to schedule a time to discuss the guidelines regarding your project. She is available throughout the application process to answer questions and help in the technical aspects of grant writing.
