Yesterday, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writer Tom Held posted an article on bicycling in Wisconsin. Among other events, he points to the upcoming Door County Century Ride that takes place next weekend on September 7. Two thousand riders will gather in Sevastopol to ride distances of 30, 64, 75 or 100 miles.
Someday, I look forward to writing about the first Door County Century ride, one that took place back in 1971, but today it’s off the the duathlon which starts in just an hour at the Northern Door YMCA. Curious about what and how much to drink in such an event, I started researching “natural” sports drinks. Here’s a great article on Sports Drinks by Chris Woolston, M.S., a health and medical writer with a master’s degree in biology. He is a contributing editor at Consumer Health Interactive, and was the staff writer at Hippocrates, a magazine for physicians. Now I know why I just couldn’t buy that Gatorade yesterday (high fructose corn syrup).
