Community Clay Nights in Algoma are ongoing creative and social evenings, open to all levels of ability. Clay on Steele has a variety of molds, textures and imprints that can be used to make bowls, plates, platters and tiles. They will also be featuring some garden projects such as birdbaths, pots and decorative pieces. Basic hand-building and glazing techniques will be demonstrated. Students are encouraged to experiment with the materials, bring in their own ideas for projects, and share their work with the class.
As an added treat, Carl Christiansen will be on hand class nights to demonstrate basic potters wheel-throwing techniques for those interested in learning to throw pots. Although Carl will not be formally teaching, he will be able to give you some tips to get started. Then you are welcome to use the wheel at any future Community Night.
An exhibition of class work will be held at Clay on Steele in April when students will have an opportunity to sell and/or show their work if they wish.
