For 10 years Great Adventure Corn Mazes (GACMK) has been working with the Schopf Family at Hilltop Dairy to create unique designs etched into their Door County corn field.
Each spring, when the plants are still quite short, GACM brings in a computerized corn-cutting machine, GPS-guided via satellite, to carve out a maze in detail.
As the corn plants mature, an exact map, previously envisioned only on paper becomes an awesome challenge, spread over multiple acres – a great way to exercise brain and body.
This year, a cake and candles for Cookie the Cow, Dairy View’s mascot are engraved in 30 acres of corn with more than 10 miles of trails. Dairy View Corn Maze visitors are invited to celebrate the anniversary. There are three separate mazes, .9 mile, 3.8 miles and 4.4 miles in length with levels of difficulty ranging from beginner to expert. Each maze includes 6 spots on a hand-held map that challengers can punch when they locate them.
A 4th maze, the FSI (farm scene investigation), tests players wits over a 1.6 mile trail as they try to solve a who-what-where crime scene investigation – much like playing the classic board game, Clue.
There are two bridges that allow you to get up over the tops of the tassels in case you get desperate or just wish to get an oversight. And everyone who visits the Dairy View Corn Maze this year also has a chance to win an i-Pod in a drawing that takes place at the end of the season.
The corn maze is open daily. Pumpkins and gourds are also available in abundance at the Dairy View Country Store, located on County Road I, just east of Carlsville. Admission to the Corn Maze is $7.50 per person; children 6 – 12 years of age $5.50 and children 5 and under admitted for free. Maze players are advised to dress appropriately bringing rain gear in threatening weather and suitable footwear, like athletic shoes or hiking boots. You can expect to be in the maze for approximately 2 hours of engaging fun.
