Woodwalk Gallery and Events Barn brings Anne Hills and Michael Smith to music fans on Friday, August 19.
A stunning soprano tone makes Anne Hills one of contemporary folk music’s premier vocalists. But, her affinity for choosing unforgettable material and her knack for writing heartfelt original songs have brought her to the upper echelon of her craft. In addition to her memorable solo albums, Hills has recorded duo albums with Tom Paxton, Cindy Mangsen, and Michael Smith. A veteran of the Chicago folk scene of the 1980s, she performed in a legendary trio with folksingers Paxton and Bob Gibson
Michael P.Smith song writer and musician, renowned composer of ‘The Dutchman’ and ‘Spoon River’, joins Anne Hills.
“Hearing the songs of Michael Smith in this day and age is like reading an anthology of short stories by Hemingway after decades of only comic books. It’s a realization that songs can hold a whole lot more than they’re usually expected to hold, that they can possess a genuine sense of place as evocative and magical as the finest literature…” says Song Talk Magazine.
Hills and Smith have recorded a duet project , “Paradise Lost and Found.” It includes some perennial favorites like Michael’s “The Dutchman” and Anne’s “Silken Dreams,” but also introduces more of their collaborative work and new songs from them both. “Paradise Lost and Found” is a live, in-the-studio recording that beautifully captures the warmth and electricity of their stage performances.
