Birch Creek Music Performance Center will hold a 2011 Club Jazz concert on Thursday, November 3 in Juniper Hall, 3 miles east of Egg Harbor on County Highway E.
The concert will feature a duo of Birch Creek jazz faculty members including Reggie Thomas, piano and Rick Haydon, guitar. Doors open at 6:30 pm for social time, cash bar and desserts. The concert begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $18 for adults and free for students. Reservations are required, call Birch Creek at 920.868.3763 to purchase tickets, or to obtain more information.
Reggie Thomas is a professor of jazz piano at Michigan State University, East Lansing. He is a jazz clinician at Lincoln Center’s Band Director Academy and acts as a jazz consultant for the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Program, reaching thousands of musicians, students and teachers each year. He is an active adjudicator and clinician throughout the Midwest and has performed with several nationally recognized artists. In addition, he has several CD credits to his name. In 2011, Thomas spent his 22nd year with Birch Creek.
Rick Haydon is on the music faculty at SIU-Edwardsville, where he is head of the guitar program and also manages the music department’s recording studio. Additionally, Haydon serves as a faculty instructor for jazz at Lincoln Center’s Band Director Academy. He has performed solo and group performances in numerous venues across the nation. Haydon received the Woody Herman Award from Birch Creek in 2004 and celebrated 12 years with Birch Creek this summer.
As in previous years, the featured artists will continue their educational outreach through Birch Creek’s Artists in Schools program. Thomas and Haydon will conduct workshops with Door County students on jazz fundamentals, techniques and musicianship while in residence.
