The Community Clinic of Door County (CCDC) recently received free window cleaning from Sturgeon Bay’s Ahnapee Hill Cleaning Services.
When Executive Director Laura Moeller, contacted Ahnapee Hill Cleaners for an estimate on what it would cost to have the Clinic’s windows thoroughly cleaned, owner John Hill, said he would send a technician out to take a look and then contact the Clinic with an estimate. Moeller was pleasantly surprised when she received a personal phone call from Hill less than a week later, stating that they would clean the windows free of charge.
“I was speechless for a moment when I was on the phone with John,” says Moeller. “All I could do was say, thank you. Thank you so much. That’s just incredible!”
In just a few short hours, window technician, Jason Barfell, had the inside and outside windows of the Community Clinic sparkling clean. This was no small feat, considering the building, located at 1623 Rhode Island Street, has well over 20 windows, including several floor-to-ceiling picture windows.
“Not only was Jason skilled at the ‘art’ of cleaning windows, he was incredibly friendly as well, and equally curious about what we do at the Community Clinic,” adds Moeller. “When Barfell learned that CCDC is a small non-profit, who depends largely on the donated professional services of a hand-full of local physicians, nurses, counseling therapists, and other medical professionals to help provide high quality primary and mental health care to those who are in need of affordable health care he was considerably impressed.”
It is important to note that the Community Clinic is the only clinic in the county that sees strictly uninsured or underinsured patients. While the Community Clinic is not a “free” clinic, no one will be turned away due to an inability to pay. Patient service fees are based on family size and income and are offered on a sliding fee scale. Patients are asked to contribute what they can, when they can, if they can. No one is turned away for health care, regardless of their ability to pay. CCDC also depends largely on charitable donations from individuals, businesses, churches, and foundations to help support its program services. CCDC receives no State, Federal, or Medicare funds for patient services – as it does no insurance billing.
