The Door Community Auditorium (DCA) is thrilled to present a unique performance by acclaimed songwriter Rickie Lee Jones on Friday, July 29.
Always a musical maverick, Rickie Lee Jones effortlessly incorporates elements of jazz, folk, rock, R&B, soul and spoken word into her work, topping charts and winning Grammy Awards along the way. She is indisputably one of the most accomplished and innovative songwriters of our time.
From the moment she was launched onto the world stage via a Saturday Night Live appearance in 1979, Rickie Lee Jones has challenged her listeners and the establishment with an absorbing musical vision that defies border and classification. Following her SNL television debut, Jones embarked on a successful world tour and was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, launching a career that has now spanned three decades and earned her incredible accolades and respect.
At the DCA, Rickie Lee Jones will be performing a concert that looks back to the early works that brought her such tremendous acclaim and attention. Her debut release, Rickie Lee Jones, and her second album, Pirates, remain to this day groundbreaking efforts in songwriting and performance. These two records will be performed in their entirety and original running order with a full band. Many of these songs will be performed again for the first time in decades, and this is the first time these two landmark records been performed back-to-back with their original instrumentation. Beginning with the song “Chuck E’s in Love,” the set will progress through to the final strains of “Traces of the Western Slopes” and “The Returns,” the two remarkable numbers that close 1982’s Pirates.
