As National Travel & Tourism week approaches, the Door County Visitor Bureau (DCVB) is busy preparing for this 27th annual celebration recognizing the importance of the travel industry. National Travel and Tourism Week is scheduled for May 8-16 this year.

Along with the launch of the DCVB’s newly redesigned DoorCounty.com web site, several new things are planned this year, highlighted by a National Tourism Week breakfast event scheduled for Thursday May 13.
Local activities and events the DCVB is planning to celebrate during the 27th annual National Travel and Tourism Week include:
- Mailing an 8-page informational brochure to all households in Door County (around 19,000 mail boxes) explaining the important role tourism plays in our local economy and how it positively impacts the quality of life for the county’s residents. Mail box delivery is expected to occur county-wide from May 10-14.
- A National Tourism Week breakfast will be held on Thursday May 13 at Stone Harbor Resort & Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay beginning at 8:30 AM. The event is open to the public and costs $10 per person, with pre-registration required by contacting the Door County Visitor Bureau no later than May 7. Wisconsin Department of Tourism Secretary Kelli Trumble will be on hand to provide opening remarks at the breakfast, which will also feature remarks by DCVB President/CEO Jack Moneypenny and special keynote speaker Bill Geist who will talk about looking forward in tourism. - Announcement on May 9th of the 2009 economic impact of tourism numbers for Door County in conjunction with the State Department of Tourism’s effort to communicate the economic impact of travel to Wisconsin and each of its’ 72 counties.
- An official launch of the DCVB’s redesigned DoorCounty.com web site, the organization’s primary online consumer information source for all things travel in Door County, will take place during National Tourism Week. The site was last redesigned in 2006.
- Signs recognizing National Tourism Week will be put up at the county line and in areas throughout the county to show local support for and recognition of the travel industry.
Additional media advisories will be made available about the economic impact of tourism in Door County and the redesigned DoorCounty.com web site during National Tourism Week, and in-person interviews with CEO Jack Moneypenny and Wisconsin Department of Tourism Secretary Kelli Trumble will be available at the National Tourism Week breakfast event on May 13.
National Travel and Tourism Week is a collective effort to promote the power of travel through customized local events in communities nationwide. The goal is to enhance the country’s economy, security and perception, and recognize the cultural and social benefits created by travel and tourism.
