Artists Franne Dickinson and her granddaughter Jennifer Lee are exhibiting a sampling of their form and figure style of painting at the UU Gallery, Ephraim during the month of May.

Franne Dickinson has been painting since she and her husband Duane moved to Door County more than twenty years ago. She gives credit to the Peninsula Art School as the foundation of her artistic expression. With a background in literature and drama and her love for music, she produces lyrical paintings with floral themes and common people in the genre of their time. As part of her women’s series of “Mail Order Brides” and “Flappers,” her most recent panels portray Darfur women. These were inspired by a newspaper photo. She has rendered them in sensitive line and in vibrant color.
Dickinson’s paintings have been featured and honored in many local art exhibits and corporate and private collections. Her “La March`e Fleur”, an amazing 7 foot pastel triptych, is a perfect example of her representational, rhythmic talent for line and dramatic color. She exhibits her work locally at her Toe Path Studio and Gallery in Ephraim.
Jennifer Lee depicts figures with fun and expressive body language. She loves the freedom of oils as the medium to express the emotion of the moment. Lee also credits the Peninsula Art School as the foundation for her success. She has studied advanced classes and has been recognized as an “Emerging Artist”. Her depiction of figures or still life is often abstracted. Working freely with bold colors, Lee says, “The painting evolves and takes on a life of its own”.
The Grandmother and Granddaughter Duo exhibit at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Gallery opens to the public on Sunday, May 2.
