United Way is recruiting for youth board members to replace Sevastopol Senior Sara Hasenjager, who is leaving the board after two years of service and a seat vacated by 2009 Sturgeon Bay graduate Jordan Burke.

Outgoing youth board member Sara Hasenjager values the experience gained while serving on the United Way board.
She explains, “I learned so much about the Door Community during my time on the board. There are so many giving people, who do so much to keep programs running within the County. My experience will help me as I go on to college in understanding people better.”
United Way of Door County expanded their pool of board members to include youth members as a result of their strategic planning process in 2004.
“Youth board members provide a different viewpoint on matters that affect our community,” says Nancy Hanson, Board President. “The United Way of Door County board needs a good mix of age and backgrounds to fulfill our goals and meet the needs of the community.”
Qualifications for the board position include interest in service to the community. Board candidates should be high school students currently completing their sophomore or junior year in any of the Door County school districts.
Up to two youth may serve on the United Way of Door County board of directors in one year. Youth serve one-year terms, with the option to serve a second term as they continue their schooling in Door County. All members of the board of directors are held to the same criteria regarding meeting attendance, committee participation, and assistance with fund development activities.
