William Chaudoir, executive director of the Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC), recognized as a 2009 “Wisconsin Innovation Champion” by UW Whitewater’s Wisconsin Innovation Service Center.

The award was announced at the UW-W Ideas to Profits conference earlier this month. During his 20-year tenure as executive director of the corporation, Chaudoir has coordinated business retention, expansion and recruitment programs and has helped develop innovative programs in entrepreneurial training, international business, workforce development and business incubation, including the Door County Business Development Center, one of the most successful business incubators in Wisconsin.
The Innovation Champion awards, presented to individuals who have had a significant impact on entrepreneurship in Wisconsin, began in 2005. Since then, more than 30 individuals have been honored. DCEDC Economic Development Manager Sam Perlman received the award in 2007.
The Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) is a public/private partnership dedicated to improving the economic vitality of the county and its residents. Celebrating 20 years of service to the community throughout 2009, DCEDC has been successful in helping existing businesses create and retain thousands of jobs through a myriad of programs and initiatives. Additionally, DCEDC places strong emphasis on fostering entrepreneurial instincts in county residents as well as those who vacation on the Door County Peninsula. Door County Economic Development Corporation offices are located within the small business incubator DCEDC founded in 1997 at 185 East Walnut Street in the Sturgeon Bay Industrial Park.
