Dick Mindykowski, a member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, will be creating, discussing and exhibiting his traditional works of art at Path & Paddle Outfitters, 210 S. 1st Ave., Sturgeon Bay.

Dick Mindykowski

Dick Mindykowski creates walking sticks, dancing staffs, tomahawks, turtle rattles, shields, dreamcatchers and necklaces using natural materials gathered entirely from the woodland environment. He traps fur bearers, harvests tree branches and gathers stones polished by wind and water.

All of the earth’s four orders find representation in Dick’s artwork. The stones, tree branches and furs represent the first three orders, physical, plant, and animal worlds. Dick’s essence represents the last order – the human world. He bestows a sense of his own meaning and passion upon each piece.

All of the materials that Dick utilizes hold special meaning to the Ojibwe and he graciously educates visitors regarding their meanings and symbolism, including the use of specific animal furs. Spending time outdoors is the fundamental motivation behind Dick’s artwork. He finds solace among the trees, listening to and watching the forest activities. He feels extremely grateful for these experiences and uses his artwork to, “give something back to the journey of life.”

You can meet artist Dick Mindykowski on the Patio at Path & Paddle on Saturday, May 29 from 10 am until 4 pm.

Jane and Rich Delcarson, both graphic artists in different mediums, will be featured at the Unitarian Universalist Art Gallery in October.

Jane and Rich moved to Door County because they felt it was a natural environment from which to easily express their talents. Their move to the peninsula followed life long careers with Rich as an automobile illustrator and Jane as a lettering artist. Rich graduated from Meinzinger Art School in Detroit, and Jane is a graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago. They both engaged in fine and commercial artwork. Their employment landscape includes the San Francisco Bay area, Los Angeles, Chicago and continues from their home in Fish Creek after incorporating to Del Graphics.

Cana Island Light

Their website www.DelGraphics.org exclaims “We do artwork the old-fashioned way – we draw it!”

Jane specializes in lettering and design. She has studied with teachers of international renown and is a member of the Chicago Calligraphy Collective and the Wisconsin Calligraphy Guild. She has taught calligraphy in both the Chicago area and in Door County. She also exhibits at local galleries and gift shops.

Rich is an oil painter of familiar outdoor scenes of Door County which he then reproduces. His desire is to assure that all lovers of art can enjoy a piece of art of their own. Among his range of available paintings are familiar Door County landmarks including lighthouses, Hardy Gallery, Wilsons Ice Cream Parlor as well as park and seaside views. Rich uses a lithographic and gouache technique in the duplication of his paintings. He has a particular concern for the density and balance of colors in the reproductive printing process and personally oversees the discharge of his work.

The UU Gallery is open Sundays, 11 am – 12:30 pm and Mondays 1 – 3 pm, at 10341 Hwy. 42, Ephraim. If you are interested in displaying art work, phone 920.839.2606. For more information visit www.uufdc.org.
