Door County Spared from Drought Conditions Over the Rest of Wisconsin
A report released yesterday by the U.S. Drought Monitor shows dry conditions in Wisconsin are expanding.
All of the state, aside from the northern half of Door County, is abnormally dry or in a drought. That’s more of the state than in the middle of the summer.Winnebago County UW-Extension ag agent Nick Schneider says, “Drought conditions at this time of year can hurt evergreen trees and shrubs the most. People should water those plants, or they could get ‘winter burn’ that leads to needle loss, stunted growth, or loss of the plant.”
Schneider says the dry weather makes it easier for farmers during the harvest, but it could hurt the winter wheat crop. He says the lack of moisture could also impact the spring planting season. From: www.whby.com
