At the Library: Willa Cather’s “My Antonia” Available Free at Door County Libraries

In preparation for The Big Read Door County 2010, free copies of the book “My Antonia” by Willa Cather are available at Door County libraries, gifts of the Friends of Door County Libraries.
The book is a classic novel of the American immigrant experience. Sign up, read the book and plan to join in a wide variety of programs, book discussions and activities that are planned for January and February throughout Door County. Door County Library Programs and Events – December 11 – 26
Friday, Dec. 11
9:30 am Forestville Library
“Oh, Christmas Tree” is the theme for Stories and Fun this week. Children and families will listen to “The Biggest Christmas Tree Ever” and “Suzy Goose and the Christmas Star.” Then they’ll be able to make a Christmas tree puppet to take home to decorate their own Christmas tree. Simple coloring pages or paper craft options are always available as an alternative to the weekly craft project. Ask Barb for details, or call the library at 856-6886. All are welcome.
Tuesday, Dec. 15
10:30 am Sturgeon Bay Library
“Happy Holiday Books” will be read at Mother Goose Story Time today for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and their parents or caregivers. Enjoy “The Twelve Days of Christmas” by Jan Brett, “The Night Before Christmas” by Clement Moore, and “Sammy Spider’s First Hanukkah” by Sylvia Rouss.
The next Mother Goose Story Time will be on January 5.
Wednesday, Dec. 16
3 pm Sturgeon Bay Library
Come watch a family movie this afternoon. Get lost in a magical winter dream while watching “The Polar Express” with Tom Hanks voicing characters from the book by Chris Van Allsburg. Free popcorn will be provided.
Friday, Dec. 18
9:30 am Forestville Library
Children and their families will celebrate a “Holiday Party – Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” at Stories and Fun this week. Listen to “Reindeer Christmas” and “The Great Reindeer Rebellion,” and then make a reindeer antler headband. Everyone is welcome. The next Stories & Fun session will be on January 8.
Saturday, Dec. 19
10:30 am Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Library
Families are invited to a Christmas Story Time today, celebrated with puppets, music and a Christmas treat.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Dec. 24 -26
All Door County Libraries and the Miller Art Museum will be closed on Thursday and Friday, December 24 and 25.
Several libraries will be open on Saturday, December 26: Fish Creek (10am – 1pm), Sister Bay (10am-2pm), Sturgeon Bay (9am-5pm) and the Miller Art Museum (10am-5pm).
