He is one of those musicians who can rightfully claim to have been born with the blues. As a child, Chris Aaron was raised by a mom who was a songwriter and performer. Her legacy was shaped by church hymns, folk music, the 60’s music explosion and the British Invasion. And she passed her love of music to her son. Her friends would often play in the home where Chris was growing up. His grandfather was a jazz musician, playing theĀ  sax and singing in a big band. Chris’ musical lineage can be traced geographically and historically through his family like finely woven threads.

Exposed to the ideals of a rich musical era, Chris heard live music at folk festivals and concerts, marches and environmental gatherings – places where music held the “happenin” together. Immersed in Native American music while his mom taught on the Menominee Reservation, Chris heard the powerful music of native drummers and saw and felt the exquisite dancing, color and energy of the powwow.

Spending his life as a musician, Chris Aaron has had notable opportunities to play alongside many of his idols… artists that include Ray Charles, George Thorogood, BB King, Libba Cotton, Buddy Guy, Keb Mo, Koko Taylor, Jimmie Vaughan, Jonny Lang, W.C. Clark, Pat mAcdonald, and Jackson Browne. His distinctive music follows in the tradition of those individuals and others who have influenced him like Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, W.C. Clark, Stevie Ray Vaughan and his studio mentor Chris Shepard.

Brittie Lee will be joining Chris along with Troy Williver on guitar, Steve Smith on bass, Mike Underwood and Paulie Ryan on drums and other greats. The Chris Aaron Band will have “Freedom 5 Miles,” their latest CD release available at Cherry Lanes, 127 N. 4th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay on Saturday. The show starts at 10 pm for music lovers 21 years and older. The cover is $5.
