VIDEO: Midsummer’s Music Festival Concerts Ongoing Throughout Door County and on Washington Island – Tonight at Peninsula Art School

Over the past several days I have been shooting and editing more than 8 hours of video footage of the musicians and their performances in this season’s ongoing Midsummer’s Music Festival. Now in their 19th year, the organization was co-founded by Jim and Jean Berkenstock, long-time Door County summer residents and principal orchestral players with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Intimate chamber music concerts are held throughout Door County at private homes, art galleries, foundations and churches.

Tonight’s concert at 7 pm is taking place at the Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek. It consists of the following works:

Danse Paraphrase Farrenc Farkas
Flute, Horn, and Viola (1905-2000)

Quartet in D Minor, Opus 93 Karl Goepfert
Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, and Bassoon (1850-1942)

Quintet in C Major Franz Schubert
Two Violins, Viola, Two Cellos (1797-1828

Their performance of the Schubert quintet is a profound experience… not to be missed!  The musicians are of extremely high caliber and the cost of a ticket is almost a gift at $25, with young people 17 and under admitted free.

Here’s the remaining Midsummer’s Music Festival schedule:

  • Sunday, July 5, 2:00 PM, The Clearing, Ellison Bay – $25.00*
  • Tuesday, July 7, 7:30 PM, Shepherd of the Bay, Ellison Bay – $25.00*
  • Wednesday, July 8, 7:30 PM, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Ephraim – $25.00*
  • Thursday, September 3, 7:30 PM, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Ephraim – $25.00*
  • Friday, September 4, 7:30 PM, Birch Creek’s Juniper Hall, Egg Harbor – $25.00*
  • Saturday, September 5, 7:30 PM, Shepherd of the Bay, Ellison Bay – $25.00*
  • Sunday, September 6, 3:00 PM, Ephraim Moravian Church, Ephraim – $25.00*

The following video coverage was captured aboard the ferry on the way to and from Washington Island, at the Washington Island Hotel and at the Trueblood Performing Arts Center. It is more about the “going and doing” rather than simply documenting the actual performance. It also serves as an unexpected homage to a dear friend and one of the principal, lifelong supporters of the arts in Door County, Alicia Mulliken.

This short-form social video also marks an initial application of the first significant, funded film production effort undertaken by my independent media production company – a documentary film to mark next summer’s 20th Anniversary of Midsummer’s Music Festival. In 2006, I decided to make a strong effort to advance and further diversify my skill level from photojournalist, Web design and PR consultant to film maker… and launched DoorCountyStyle.com Magazine to help deliver that new media. I spent 6 months in Yunnan, China learning to shoot and edit documentaries, building a curriculum plan for the Linden Centre and returned home in 2007 to apply what I learned there.

This doesn’t mean I am abandoning everything previous. I merely think that having strong video communications capabilities will be very important as we enter into the world of Web 3.0… the world of “many-to-many” conversation. Find out more at the Door County Social Media Club.
